This particular piece has been cut from an extraordinary block of 20+ year-old Italian briar. The grain structure is a text book example of a truly great crossgrain. Handling many blocks of wood over 30 years, one developes a feeling when holding a special piece of wood; this is one of those. I'll eat my hat if this pipe does not become one that you can barely keep your hands off. At the risk of sounding like a hard sell, I firmly believe this will be an incredible smoking pipe.
